So, there is going to be a change in reading for this year. I unfortunately have to scrap the paranormal challenge idea. I will still be trying to read at least 50-75 books if I can.

Why the change? Posted a brief little blurb on facebook. But, I will soon be reviewing books for Enchanting Reviews http://www.enchantingreviews.com/. The criteria is just to review 1 book per month so nothing too stressful and there seems to be a good variety of books to review (young adult, paranormal romance, erotica, etc).

Part of the agreement is that the reviews are only for the site, so no posting here. There will be a running list of titles of what I've read in my memories.

While not a paying gig, I think this will be a great opportunity for me to work on my writing skills as they have been slack for way too long.

Perhaps it will be inspiration to get my paranormal romance idea out of my head and into words. We'll see....d

First installment to the series. Pru and her family must leave their mortal lives in Beverly Hills to return to Salem so that she and her brother can attend magic school. A bit hard to get into at first but fairly enjoyable.

Fun, young adult paranormal. Daisy Giordano is the only "norm" in a family of psychics. Her mom just thinks she's a late bloomer. Daisy gets upset when her mom asks her sisters to help her solve a case so she decides to investigate with the help of the boy she's crushing on. There is a psionic vampire loose in Nightshade and their food of choice is cheerleaders. Daisy joins the squad in order to try to get to the bottom of this before more cheerleaders end up in the hospital or dead.

Not quite as good as Gil's All Fright Diner but still an enjoyable yet at times gruesome supernatural epic. The witch is cursed with ageless beauty and a craving for raw flesh. She must hide her beauty to try to seem "witchly". Her mentor is murdered and thus begins her quest of vengeance with her demon duck familiar and enchanted broom. Along the way she is befriended by a troll and a White Knight and they must battle a sorcerer who has gone mad.

Who wouldn't enjoy a book with the tag line of: "A tale of vengeance, true love, and cannibalism".

Book 4 in the Broken Heart series. This one focuses around Ralph Genessa, the only male single parent that was victim to the first attacks in Broken Heart. He is a widower and has twin toddlers. But, now, he's also a vampire able to wield fire. He stumbles upon Libby Monroe, a PRIS (paranormal research & investigation service) investigator in a graveyard and 2 battling dragons fall toward them. One of the dragons is badly injured and passes her dragon spirit to both LIbby and Ralph. Craziness ensues as Libby is now a dragon hybrid. She can wield fire and hears its "song" but can not shapeshift. And the dragon's brother whom she had been fighting wants her spirit back.

Definitely a great series with tons of potential. Now, must wait for book 5 to come out in May :(

This is the first MJD book that I've picked up and will definitely be getting more. It was a fairly quick, fun read. I'm not sure if these characters are met in the Betsy books but it seems like there is some story before this as she kind of expects you to know some of the characters and doesn't really do too much back narration.

Still good plot that moved fairly quickly. A werewolf is sent to kill the reincarnation of Morgan Le Fey before she destroys the world. There is not really any witchcraft per se as the girl who used to be Morgan doesn't know any, but she has wicked luck.

I really don't know why these books are so hard for me to get into. The Harper Connelly series is just an easier read. It took about 100 pages for this to get interesting for me. I do tend to like Eric more than Bill. There are 2 storylines in this one. 1st you find out about Lafayette being killed possibly because of a sex party he attended. That plot is left on hold while Bill and Sookie are loaned out to the Dallas vamps to use Sookie's gift to find one of their missing brothers. After that is tied up, they return home to solve Lafayette's murder.

Having seen the 1st season of True Blood did help as I could use those to visualize the characters, but it just seems that the television show is a bit better paced.

Book 3 of the Broken Heart series. These first 3 were devoured in 4 days. REALLY good stuff.

This is the story of Patsy Donahue and Gabriel a rogue wolf/vampire hybrid. Unlike the other hybrids, Gabriel was born that way and had always been an outcast. Patsy used to be the hair dresser in Broken Heart, now her business mostly consists of full body shampoos for the lycans.

The vampires have 7 ancient bloodlines and each has a special power. The line that Patsy was sired from can speak to ghosts and raise zombies. There is a prophecy about a "queen" who would unite the vampires and lycans and solve their problems. The lycans are dying and any new ones born do not last past the first year.

Koschei and a few of the other ancients mount a full scale attack on the Consortium.

Book 2 in the Broken Heart series.

This one focuses on Eva LeRoy and Lorcan. Eva LeRoy and 9 others were also attacked at the same time as Jessica from book one. They were all turned to vampires in order to save them after the attack. This book gets into more detail about the hybrids created from trying to cure the taint. Ron and the Wraiths were pretty much destroyed in the first book, but the Consortium has a new foe in one of their own, an Ancient named Koschei.

This is the first book in the Broken Heart series.

Broken Heart, Oklahoma is a dying town. This story focuses on Jessica and Patrick. Jessica is a typical Broken Heart resident, a single parent. She is mauled one night by a big, hairy creature and wakes up drinking blood from some naked guy's thigh. Broken Heart is soon overrun by paranormal beasties looking for this creature who is a vampire/werewolf hybrid as the result of trying to cure the "taint" a vampire disease. The Consortium, the good guys, sorta, are trying to cure the taint while the Wraiths and their leader, Ron, are trying to take over humankind.

This is a fun, paranormal romp and a great start to the series. These are very hard to put down.

Because of doing the Paranormal 999 challenge this year, I'll be doing real quick recaps of the books I read and then placing them in the 2009 books memory.

This is the 3rd installment in the Harper Connelly series. Harper was struck by lightning in her teens and ever since can locate dead bodies. She travels with her step brother Tolliver Lang and they make a living by Harper either finding dead bodies or telling people the cause of death. In this one, they head to Doraville NC where several boys have gone missing. It's her first serial killer case and proves difficult.

I'm not quite sure if I'll continue reading the series after this one, probably, but I really don't like the new relationship development.
