While I rented this through Netflix, I have a suspicion it may have at one time been one of the fabulous Saturday Sci-Fi Channel movies that I so love.
The plot is a little bit of the Matrix meets I, Robot. Post apocalyptic, everyone now lives in a bubble city of Phoenix and "Cogs" (androids) help with various work details. The maker of the Cogs has upgraded himself and is working toward making the Cogs self sufficient so no humans would be necessary. A man is laid off from his job replaced by a Cog, then ends up killing a Cog later that night in a fight even though Cogs aren't supposed to be able to fight humans.
The man is placed on a prison transport shackled to a Cog. The transport is attacked and the prisoner and Cog have to work together to survive the wasteland.
Not a bad waste of an hour and half. But, I'm a sucker for cheesy sci-fi and it stars Scott Bairstow (guilty pleasure from my days of watching Party of Five).
